Welcome to The Portage County Beekeepers Association website!
Updated on May 6, 2013 by Mary Ann Amoroso
The Portage County Beekeepers Association is an organization for the novice and professional beekeepers in the Portage County Ohio area. Joining is easy. For just $5.00 per year you can enjoy all the benefits of our organization including our meetings, Field Day and Summer Picnic. Dues are payable at any of our meetings (see the calendar below).
During Field Day we have a hands-on learning experience. We open hives, check for the queen, look for warning signs of problem, such as varroa mites or hive beetles, and have many experienced beekeepers ready to answer your questions. You don't want to miss this opportunity.
We have a mentoring program for new beekeepers or anyone who would like some personal help. Feel free to contact any of our mentors from the list on the left.
Thank you for looking and we hope to see you soon.

Field Day and Summer Picnic
Field Day is at Norm Mack's farm, 8259 St. Rt. 88 in Ravenna, just down the road from Maplewood Career Center where we hold our regular meetings. We will be working with the bees, so please wear whatever makes you most comfortable. Also, if you want to bring some treats for after the meeting, all will be appreciated. We are starting 1:00 and it should be a nice day. Hope to see you there!
At Field Day we will be having the sign up sheet for the picnic meeting, and Peg will be collecting a refundable $5.00 per family fee that is simply used to judge the number of people who will be attending. The fee will be returned when you attend the picnic.
The Summer Picnic, it will be on JULY 21st at West Branch State Park. We will be having the picnic in shelter # 1, parking lot A. Here is the address from their website: 5570 ESWORTHY ROAD, RAVENNA, OH 44266. A refundable $5.00 per family fee must be paid to the treasurer by July 14 to attend to attend the picnic. The fee will be returned at the picnic. If you aren't attending Field Day, the fee can be dropped off or mailed to Peg Kaminski at 1459 Howe Rd. Kent Ohio 44240.

Apiary Registration
Here is the link to Apiary Registration. The price is only $5.00 for a beeyard. You might want to call or email to avoid a late charge (I don't know if there is one, but best to be prepared).

Volunteers Needed
The Portage County Beekeepers Association is looking for a few good men and women for the Calling Committee. What is the Calling Committee? Those are the people who contact you by phone about a week before our meetings as a friendly reminder. As a member of the committee you will be given a list of 5 to 10 names and phone numbers and all you have to do is give them a call. To volunteer, please contact Fred Lauck at 330-673-7432.
